He completed his MBBS (1982) and MD in Paediatrics (1986) at Grant Medical College & Sir JJ Group of Hospitals, Mumbai, and went on to earn a PhD in Neurology at the Russian State Medical University, Moscow (1992), followed by postdoctoral research at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow.
